Where throw away receipts?

It depends on whether they are standard paper or thermal paper, and on the specific type of thermal paper.

NON‑THERMAL STANDARD PAPER
Invoices, receipts, or printouts produced with a regular printer must be placed in the paper recycling stream.

THERMAL PAPER RECYCLABLE WITH PAPER

• Phenol‑free thermal paper: This type of thermal paper contains no chemical substances such as bisphenols (BPA, BPS).
• New‑generation thermal paper: Developed using innovative technologies without reactive chemical components. It is also resistant to sunlight, humidity, and atmospheric agents. It is usually identifiable by its blue or grey color.

On the back of these papers you will find the indication “can be recycled with paper”, because their recyclability—due to the absence of phenols—is certified by an appropriate mark*.

THERMAL PAPER NOT RECYCLABLE WITH PAPER
The thermal papers most commonly used today for fiscal receipts create issues during recycling and still contain undesirable chemical substances (note: labels such as “BPA‑free” are not sufficient).
If the back of the receipt does not state that it is recyclable with paper, it must not go into paper recycling.
